ROI Forum hosted by Box: Communicating During Business Transformations

January 23, 2020

Last week the ROI team kicked off the 2020 ROI Forum series at Box’s headquarters in downtown Redwood City. Joined by senior communication leaders from a range of companies including Apple, Salesforce, and Stanford, all attendees participating in a discussion on the topic of business transformation.

In addition to a presentation from Box’s Director of Internal Communications, ROI’s Sheryl Lewis presented on communicating during business transformations. Sheryl defined “business transformations” and shared a few examples, such as how Netflix transformed from DVD rental to streaming and then again to an Oscar leading content creator. A key takeaway was the importance of vision – the need to elevate the view for employees to show, in a meaningful way, the direction and destination.

The group discussion centered on the common experiences of the communicators in the room; the need to explain the why behind the decisions, the importance of looking at the total employee experience and what works to bring employees along on the journey.
