As a photographer exploring Yosemite Valley, Cathy Boone once endured an hour in pouring rain to capture the first ray of sunshine piercing the clouds above El Capitan. As a seasoned communications consultant, she brings a similar focus to honing ideas to their very essence.
“You have to be clear about the story you’re telling and get rid of all the distractions,” Cathy said. “Like a good picture, you need to help people focus and engage.”
Cathy developed this approach over 20 years working in politics, law and the tech industry. Before joining ROI Communication in 2018, Cathy spent a half dozen years as an independent policy and marketing consultant, primarily helping emerging technology companies navigate policy, strategy and messaging challenges.
Earlier, Cathy worked at Applied Materials in leadership roles that included Senior Director of Global Marketing Communications and Senior Director for Policy and Market Development. Prior to her tenure at Applied Materials, she held positions of increasing responsibility in External Affairs and Technology Solutions at Covad Communications Company.
In each of these roles, she built strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including media, industry leaders, customers and others to help articulate and advance her companies’ goals. “I always respect the audience, and work to be a purveyor of valuable information that helps people make better decisions,” she said.
Before entering the tech industry, Cathy spent several years on Capitol Hill as the Legislative Director for Congressman Ben Jones of Georgia, and also worked as an attorney. She earned a BA from Dickinson College and a JD from Emory University School of Law.
When she’s not advising clients, Cathy enjoys traveling, hiking, photography, blogging and planning her next big adventure.
