Joni Saphir asks a lot of questions – not just seeking answers, but to understand the why behind those answers. And that tenacity has fueled her entire career in corporate communication.
“If I don’t understand the why, and the larger goals we’re trying to achieve, it’s harder to frame ideas in a way that motivates people to action,” she said.
A senior communications strategist with more than 15 years of experience managing internal and HR communications for global companies, Joni joined the ROI Communication team from Blue Prism, a software company focused on intelligent automation. As that firm’s Manager of Global Internal Communications, she developed internal communication strategy; produced the company newsletter, intranet and video town halls; and collaborated with the HR and marketing departments to deepen employee engagement and facilitate change.
Earlier, she served as the Manager of HR Communications for Sony Pictures Entertainment, where she led communications on a wide range of HR policies, partnered to overhaul the company’s intranet, created the company’s Health and Wellness initiative, and worked on the company’s internal Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
Previously, Joni worked as the Director of Internal Communications for Computer Sciences Corporation, where she directed and produced the corporate videos, developed a strategy to spur employee adoption of a new collaboration platform, and revamped the company’s approach to internal engagement and communication. Prior to that, she oversaw Corporate Communications for Pioneer Electronics. She also spent several years running her own consultancy, advising a range of clients in HR and corporate communications.
“I love telling stories that bring people’s work to life, whether that’s reporting on the test firing of space shuttle engines, how software keeps Switzerland’s trains from colliding, or how employees work together to overcome a crippling cyber-attack,” she said.
Joni earned a BA in Journalism and Public Relations from San Jose State University, and a certification in Human Resources from Loyola Marymount University. When she’s not advising clients, she enjoys gardening, cheering on the San Francisco 49’ers, hiking and reading.
