Eric is a fan of science fiction. As a whiz with numbers, he’s great at forecasting the future.
About Eric
Contra Costa County, California
As a CPA with nearly 30 years of experience, Eric Lamothe has seen his share of spreadsheets. And if all those numbers – millions of them – have taught him one lesson, it’s this: finance alone shouldn’t drive what a business does; the business should drive what finance does.
“I’m not the kind of finance person who’s just looking at the numbers,” Eric said. “I want data to reveal stories about the business. Then with those stories, we can make better business decisions. I’m also very interested in improving processes. I love to get out in front of things and help solve issues before they become problems.”
Eric is ROI’s VP of Finance and IT, overseeing all aspects of the company’s finances and IT infrastructure. As a member of the ROI leadership team, he also helps develop and execute ROI’s growth strategy.
Eric joined the team from Future State, an employee-owned management consulting firm. As Future State’s Head of Finance, he helped position the company to significantly grow revenue, revamped its forecasting process, and facilitated its sale to Accenture in 2021.
Earlier in his career, he served as Global Finance Manager for Gensler, a global architecture and design firm known for its skyscrapers, major airport terminals, and other large projects. In this role, he directed financial planning, led budgeting, and built a team that enabled Gensler to expand internationally, which in turn helped the company double its annual revenue to $1 billion.
“I’ve spent the last 20 years working in and with professional service firms, and have learned that every business is unique, every team is different, and every market varies. Even so, my job remains the same – partnering to help the business operate more effectively,” Eric said.
When Eric isn’t interpreting spreadsheets or strategizing with colleagues, he loves the performing arts, especially live music and theater. He is known for his impressive Halloween costumes, and occasionally performs with local improv and theater groups. He also enjoys reading, hiking, gardening, and playing strategic board games such as Settlers of Catan. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
