About Kelly
Calaveras County, California

Kelly Scott’s first job was at a company that manufactured PVC pipe. There, she ran the company switchboard, sorted mail, gassed up the company cars and – when it was unavoidable – nibbled politely on fish eyeballs and chicken feet with the executive team. “Doing so many different things and dealing with so many people, I got to see how a company actually ran,” she said. “It was really fun.” But the most important lesson she learned was about company culture.

“If people enjoy their work and the people around them, they do their jobs more effectively,” Kelly said. “Companies with healthy cultures perform better.”

Kelly, who helps run The Enlightened Workplace Project for ROI, has spent the past 30 years helping companies improve employee engagement, internal communication, compliance and quality control, HR communication, inclusion and diversity, training, and professional development.

Immediately prior to joining the Enlightened Workplace Project team, Kelly was the Director of Internal Communications at SunPower, a leading Distributed Generation Storage and Energy Services provider. In this role, she was responsible for all aspects of the company’s communication with 7,500 employees around the world, including companywide meetings, the intranet, editorial content and surveys.

Previously, Kelly served as VP of Contingent Workforce Management Solutions at Techworkers, running a $40 million placement program that successfully recruited, placed and managed 1,200 software engineers, data architects and support personnel with GE Digital. Earlier, she served as an HR manager at Quantum Corporation, and as a training and development manager at Philips Medical Systems.

Kelly’s collaboration with ROI originally began in 2002, when she joined as an internal communications consultant focused on helping Hewlett-Packard integrate Compaq. Over the next 11 years with ROI, she advised clients in a diverse range of industries, often working onsite in close collaboration with in-house colleagues. Projects included strategic planning, employee surveys, manager communication training, executive visibility, virtual and live meetings, intranet and web content, HR communication, acquisitions and mergers, finance communication, as well as global inclusion and diversity.

Kelly is a graduate of the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, and earned an MS in Human Resources Organization Development from the University of San Francisco.

When she’s not helping clients develop a more enlightened workplace, Kelly enjoys boating, sewing her own clothes, formulating balms and ointments, wine-tasting with her husband and walking her toy poodles, Max and Penny. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
