As companies reevaluate their intranet strategy, we’re hearing many questions from our clients like: Is the concept of an intranet outdated? What’s the best way to complement other communications tools like Zoom and Teams? How can we make our intranet more social and engaging? What are other companies doing with their intranets?

Keeping up with changes in the intranet marketplace and adopting new strategies are critical to any digital employee experience. During our most recent ROI Tech Talk, we took a broad look at trends that impact users, technology partners and communication leaders who are obligated to stay current and push the intranet envelope. ROI’s tech expert, Byron Whitt, led the discussion to address these trends, many with a special emphasis on how the pandemic, remote work and the consolidation of technology platforms are quickly rewriting the rules for corporate intranets.

During the conversation, common pain points surfaced such as frustration with search, outdated metrics, content strategy and design inconsistency. We also heard that while intranet strategies exist, they are usually embedded in other corporate strategies and initiatives and don’t get the attention they deserve. However, on the optimistic end, we also heard that our clients feel their intranets are not only relevant, but mission critical.
